We are constantly working with the school as well as community organizations to get STEM related opportunities to our students. See below some options:

Some Summer Offerings for Students (Summer of 2023)

1. The Center for Education Integrating Science Mathematics, and Computing at Georgia Tech is offering summer programs for students K-12.

2. Clarkson University Horizons Program is offering STEAM based Summer camp. This unique experience is offered for middle and high school students to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) concepts in a fun and engaging atmosphere surrounded by likeminded peers.

2023 STEMUp: Youth Maker Competition

Overview of program: United Way of Greater Atlanta is pleased to announce that the 2023 STEMUp: Youth Maker Competition is now open.

Through STEMUp, we award small grants to help youth test innovative ideas that can solve problems in their communities. This live competition modeled after the television show “Shark Tank” is an opportunity for young people in our region to use their ideas, voice, and leadership to improve our communities. The competition is open to middle and high school-aged students who are involved in STEM programming in the United Way of Greater Atlanta 13-county footprint.

Selection and Process:
Finalists selected from the submitted written proposals will move on to a live pitch round, where up to 3 winners will be selected to receive a monetary award up to $2,500.00 to support the implementation of their innovative idea.

Winners will be matched with volunteer coaches from Cox Enterprises to review their projects, progress, and questions and offer support throughout the implementation process. 

Important dates and deadlines: 
Written proposals are due February 22, 2023.

2023 Georgia Junior Science & Humanities Symposium

Overview of program: The University of Georgia’s Office of Academic Special Programs invites high school students across the state to apply for the Georgia Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (GJSHS), a prestigious, nationally-affiliated program that provides valuable and life-changing opportunities for students interested in STEM.

Sponsored by the research programs of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force, GJSHS serves to support, promote, and publicly recognize our state’s brightest STEM students and their outstanding achievement in scientific research by providing participants with the unique opportunity to present their research to a panel of highly qualified judges in the format of an academic conference.

Students will have the opportunity to:
Improve their research and presentation skills;
Network with STEM professionals and like-minded students;
Earn scholarships and other awards;
and Advance to the National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (an expense-paid trip)

GJSHS will be held February 26-28, 2023 at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel.

Criterion for selection:
Students submit an abstract and research paper (6-20 pages), which will be reviewed by a team of qualified STEM research professionals. Based on their evaluations, approximately 50 students will be invited to present at the three-day GJSHS event on the University of Georgia campus in February.

Important dates and deadlines: 
The online application will open on December 1, 2022 at www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/gjshs.
The application deadline for GJSHS is January 10, 2023.

GenCyber Program at Kennesaw State University, funded by the National Security Agency (NSA)

Overview of program: Offering knowledge in cybersecurity with engaging hands-on activities.
The program consists in 3 phases:

- 15 hours of online pre-program (Spring 2023 - weekend time) with preparation for Gencyber camp.
- 30 hours in-person (1 week) in Summer 2023 - June 5th - June 9th at KSU Marietta Campus.
- 15 hours of online post-program (Fall 2023 - weekend time) with final materials and surveys.

Number of applicants accepted: 9 to 12

Enrollment cost: FREE for selected students

Important dates and deadlines: Applications are now open! Priority will be given to students registered before October 31st.

Additional Information: Selected students will receive:

- Digital badges for completing each one of the Gencyber modules (8 modules)
- A raspberry PI used for labs
- Final certificate of completion of the program
- Letters for college (upon request)
- One week of in-situ instruction with souvenirs and food/drinks
- Most importantly: Knowledge in cybersecurity to advance their studies!
